Choosing the right type of orthodontic treatment

For many of us, the appearance of others and our own teeth means a great deal. Having straight, linear teeth is an appearance that people generally love to see. Unfortunately, not all are blessed with a great natural smile out of the gate. However, in this day and age, it is as easy and painless as ever to align your teeth and showcase a beautiful smile. Orthodontists, that specialize in reconfiguring the directions and placement of your teeth, have been around for many years now and is still the best and most trusted practice of reinventing your oral appearance.

An orthodontist’s job is to examine your teeth and choose the right course of action to correct them. Often this will be a variation of braces that shift your teeth into a proper position over time. Some teeth will only need a short treatment to align a few teeth or to improve teeth cosmetics. Others will more long term brace treatments  that will tackle issues like over-bites, crooked or crowded teeth and correcting an entire row of teeth.  So while it is best to have a discussion with your orthodontist, here are the different types of correctional methods to correct your teeth.

Fixed Braces

These are the types of braces people invasion when they imagine the word braces. A series of brackets set across the outside of your teeth with a wire fastening the brackets together. This is typically the most cost-efficient option and is often used when the frame of someone’s mouth needs a lot of adjusting. These types of braces do come in a clear colour now, making it difficult for anyone to realize you do in fact have braces on the outsides of your teeth.

Incognito Braces

This is like fixed braces only they are on the reverse side of the teeth. This lingual system is set using brackets facing toward your throat, making it nearly impossible to tell you are having any work to your teeth. The customized fitting makes it comfortable to wear. This is a great option if you feel conscious about having the look of braces in your mouth. This is also one of the most affordable solutions to orthodontic work.

Invisalign is a custom-molded mouth piece that is removable and transparent. You can take the alignment pieces out of your mouth at any time, making it one of the most comfortable these correcting methods available. While on the higher cost, the molds don’t need as much maintenance as other methods, meaning fewer trips to the dentist and ultimately less headache.
